Eustress — The Good Stress

We are used to hearing distress, the kind of negative stress that leads us to feel anxious, exhausted either physically or emotionally. However, there is another kind of stress that leads to positive effects: eustress. Eustress, or positive stress, denotes the type of stress that leads to motivation and energy. Examples of eustress include:

  • Exercise: engaging in a physical activity may be painful but it leads to a positive mood and energy.
  • Competing: taking part in a competition may be feel daunting, but we feel a sense of excitement and feel motivated to perform at our best.
