Living the hard way is the theme of the first day of the 365 days of self-discipline as described in the book of the same name by Martin Meadows. He starts by explaining what discipline means:

Self-discipline means living your life the hard way: resisting temptations and instant gratification, in order to receive bigger and better rewards in the future. — Martin Meadows

My favorite point is the idea of embracing challenges and perceiving them as opportunities to grow. This is even important in our professional life — especially, when you are new. Most of the times, we seek the easy way out or simply wish for easier tasks. Though natural, it strips us off the opportunity to grow.

The book recommends voluntarily seeking challenges as they make your life easier in the end.

Life’s easy when you live it the hard way... and hard if you try to live it the easy way — Dave Kekich

This quote reminded me of the quote from Naval’s coach who says: “Easy choice, hard life. Hard choice, easy life”.
