Day 22 of the 365 days of self-discipline book covers the idea of self-discipline as a form of freedom. The author argues that the best way to build self-discipline and enjoy the journey is to think about it as a liberating experience. Failing to do this will likely make your journey drudgery. As he rightly puts it:

Changing the way you think about self-discipline can help you become more self-disciplined. If you think about it in terms of deprivation and suffering, guess what! You’ll never find enjoyment in personal growth, and most likely will soon give up on your endeavors. — Martin Meadow

This reminded me of a book called Discipline Equals Freedom by Jocko W. (which I still need to read).
