Day 16 of the 365 days of self-discipline book covers self-reliance. The idea is simple: relying on others is good, but we must learn to be self-reliant. In building discipline, relying on yourself is even more important. If you rely heavily on others to build self-disciple, it will end up in failure. As the author suggests:

External support can be valuable, but just like a person recovering from an injury isn’t fully recovered if they can’t stand without a crutch, you aren’t self-disciplined enough unless you can still stick to your resolutions even without the help of other people. — Martin Meadow
