Day 8 of the 365 days of self-discipline book covers the idea of what is essential. The author argues that by carefully examining what is essential to us and focusing on that, we are likely to realize that there is too much stuff we should fine living without. By trying to live without certain things, we realize that some things we used to consider essential are simply unessential. As the author puts it:

This can then help you eliminate the unessential from your life and free up additional resources to focus on what’s important. Finally, you will increase your ability to feel happy with less — including being happy in a situation when you’re deprived of something involuntarily. — Martin Meadow
