Day 9 of the 365 days of self-discipline book covers the future self. The author argues that spending some time imagining our future self can be beneficial. This argument is also substantiated by studies that show increased sense of delayed gratification in people who interacted virtually with their future selves in an experiment cited in the book. The author concludes:

The person you’ll become in ten years will most likely not be the same person you are today, but it will still be you — and it’s in your hands whether, ten years from now you’ll look back and feel glad you extended self-empathy well into the future, or find that you decided to be selfish and steal from your future for some fleeting pleasure today. — Martin Meadow
