Quant #03: Methods of Data Collection

One of the steps involved in quantitative research is the collection of data. Data can come from primary sources or secondary sources. Primary data refer to data that a researcher has collected himself/herself for the purpose of answering the research question (s) he or she developed. Secondary data, on the other hand, consist of data generated by people or institutions other than the researcher himself/herself.

In quantitative research, primary data can be gathered using various methods of data collection. Some of the most common methods used by researchers to collect data are online surveys, paper surveys, mobile surveys, face-to-face interviews, telephone interviews, and others. The choice of a data collection method depends on the need and practicality of the research to be conducted.
